About Spero Lodge

Making good men better since 1949.

Spero Lodge is the 186th oldest Lodge in the Province of Essex, operating Taylor’s Ritual (under the jurisdiction of the United Grand Lodge of England.) Spero was Consecrated in 1949 – if you would like to you can read some of the history. Spero currently has around 36 members but we are always keen to find new members. We are an associate Lodge of Instruction in the Taylor’s Ritual Association.

If you are interested in joining our happy Lodge you need only ask us. It is a common misconception that you have to wait until you are asked. If you are interested in how to be a Freemason you will hopefully find out about us, Essex Freemasons and Freemasonry in general from the information on this site. If not please feel free to contact us with your questions or to ask how do I become a Freemason with Spero Lodge.

We hold regular functions and events, such as BBQs, Golf Days, Ladies & Guest Nights. In 2007 some of our wives, partners/girlfriends decided that one Ladies Night a year wasn’t enough. So they set up Spero Wives & Girlfriends (or SWAGs for short.) More details can be found here for SWAGs and of our other events.

Every Mason you will speak to will have a very different take on Freemasonry and what it means to them and how they joined the fraternity. In a sense this diversity is what makes Freemasonry special, that and the bond of friendship and fellowship. So you can be assured that you will be given a very warm welcome.
